Lily also uses the following techniques to assist clients.

Energy Psychology

Our minds and bodies are very interconnected. However, as intelligent human beings, we spend most of the time in our heads. We have practically forgotten how to glean wisdom from our bodies.

I use many techniques to help connect feelings, mind, body and behaviors. Energy psychology is not just talk-based. I blend physical interventions, along with the acupuncture system and other ancient systems of healing with cognitive behavioral awareness. By intensifying images and feelings and allowing the body to process them, we can experience huge energetic shifts.

Sometimes, it is difficult to break out of unhelpful mind and body patterns. Often, this is because we hold on to: negative beliefs about ourselves and/or others, memories and feelings about past events and people. It’s not that we want to hold on to these beliefs and feelings, but we can’t talk ourselves out of them. In order to really let them go, we cannot just rely on our minds, we must also incorporate our bodies.

Energy psychology has had so much success, that it is currently being studied at the National Institutes of Health.

Emotional Freedom Technique

When we are relaxed in our minds, our bodies operate in that state (our parasympathetic nervous system). When we are in a state of stress, our bodies operate in that state (the sympathetic nervous system).

If we are experiencing a problem, and we only work on changing our mind’s perceptions (views, thoughts, belief systems, perceived emotions) of that problem, but we never work on the state our bodies enter (anxiety, stress, increased heart rate, muscle tension), we are not addressing the whole issue.

EFT is an approach to help people work through issues by integrating the mind with the body. It incorporates emotional states, thoughts and acupressure points to get the mind and body in synch.

By accessing both the mind and body, EFT helps take the body out of the sympathetic stressful state and enter a relaxing, calm, parasympathetic state. It is in this ladder state that we have the potential to create the lives and relationships we really want.

Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy

If a tree (person / relationship) were having difficulty growing and the leaves were not vibrantly full and green, it would be wise to explore the surroundings in order to figure out why it was not reaching its full potential. We may consider visible things such as: sunlight, trash, carvings in the trunk, rainfall, competitor trees etc.

While these are important variables to examine in terms of the tree’s health, they do not represent the entire picture.

There is also a tremendous root system below the surface of the earth that is not visible to the eye. Much of the tree’s ability to flourish depends on this root system. We cannot possibly understand the dynamics of what’s beneath the surface unless we look below.

Cognitive Behavioral Hypnotherapy is the tool I use to explore the roots below.

Many relational and sexually related issues can be explored through cognitive behavioral hypnotherapy including:

  • Relationship distress
  • Fighting
  • Unwanted sexual behaviors
  • Intimacy blocks
  • Sexual fears
  • Communication difficulties
  • Sexual anxieties
  • Lack of desire
  • Performance / Longevity

Body Based Learning

Body Based Learning is unique to each client and his/her/their experiences. At times, it’s similar to acting.

After having an understanding about the issue or interaction, I re-create the situation so that you can re-experience the event in a new way. You will not experience the event in the same painful way that you originally did.

Through guided exercises, I may change roles, characters, and ways of interacting so there is a genuine understanding and empathy of how you and the other person felt. There is also a chance to respond or act differently from the original event so that repair can actually be experienced on a body level, not just a talk based level.

As we walk through life and we genuinely understand ourselves, our partners and how our interactions affect each other, real intimacy is built.

Sex Education

Through sex education, depending on what your situation is, I may offer you any of the following:

  • Techniques to improve intimacy
  • Ways to get sex life to increase in frequency
  • What is “normal” and what is not
  • Ways to improve stamina
  • Methods to have multiple orgasms
  • Sexercises that are fun for couples
  • Methods to decrease inhibitions
  • Fun ways to bring about change
  • What is needed in a “good” sex life
  • Working through past trauma
  • And more!

Somatic Psychology

We are not just meant to be talking heads sitting on couches processing our lives with therapists. Of course, for portions of my work, we sit in chair and couch, but I incorporate many different aspects that get us out of our heads and words and into our bodies, feelings and experiences.

My techniques go beyond language. I may use: sound, touch, mirror exercises, embodied movement, breath focus, dance, music, writing, art, sensations, food response, acting and more.

I use my artistic imagination and creation to uniquely tailor each session. No two sessions are alike.
